Norway is unique in more ways than one: for a start, it’s the northernmost country in Europe, with the smallest density in the continent. It also holds number one place in the world in Human Development Index.Norway’s not just a country boasting the highest quality of life, though, it’s also one that’s fantastic to travel! A trip to Norway is like entering the home of Mother Nature herself. Sea and mountain have joined forces to form sublime landscapes:Natural Parks, lakes, glaciers, forests, and stunning fjords. Norway is a country whose scenery changes with the seasons:in summer, prepare for days that go on forever, and a glowing sun that shines even at midnight… In winter, Nature puts on its white jacket and the snow sports begin. It’s also the season during which the Northern Lights are at their most spectacular. Frankly, this ethereal phenomenon alone is worth making the trip! Conveniently, Norway is also&nbsp;an ideal destination for a family trip: what child wouldn’t want to take a visit to the homeland of Father Christmas?

Narvik, is a town between the sea and the sky that I was lucky enough to discover during my very first trip to Norway. It's surrounded by mountains and sea which blur gently into one another. 
At first sight it looks like a cold town (and not just because of its cold winter climate, with temperatures often below freezing), which is not very interesting. However, if you take the time to explore you will see Narvik has lots to do. 
You can amuse yourself with the museums (the Steel Museum, for example, or the War Museum), music festivals, or surprising restaurants, or you can put your skis on in town and go off skiing in the surrounding hills. 
Narvik is also a perfect base for exploring the region. For example, you could take the train to Kiruna (in Sweden) which travels along the fjords, giving you some fantastic panoramas. 
I have a great memory of the town and I think you should spend a least one day there even though, obviously, it's not really the only place you would want to go to during your trip!

The Viking Ship museum is also an excellent visit, before you enjoy a delicious lunch and explore downtown Oslo, with cool and quirky its shops and sleek cafes, as well as indoor pools, countless adventure playgrounds and picnic areas. Once you’ve explored everything that Norway’s capital has to offer, visit the western fjords and enjoy open spaces and beautiful scenery as you’ve never seen it before or enjoy the views over the Norwegian countryside from the train window, as you ride the Setesdalsbanen railway.
