Trekking is the number one activity to do during a trip to Nepal. For the most beautiful walks, Pokhara is where everything is happening.
It's no secret for anyone that Nepal is THE country for trekking and for high mountains. After all, the roof of the world, the Everest, whose peak stands at an altitude of 8848 metres, is Nepalese. Pokhara is really the trekking capital.
After the terrible, deadly earthquake which struck the country in 2015, the 200 kilometres that you'll cross throughout your trip to Nepal between the capital Kathmandu and the trekking capital Pokhara will seem a complete adventure to you. By bus you can easily count on at least 8 hours travel time. Fortunately, to make the route less boring you can see absolutely amazing landscapes out of the window. If the road puts you off, or you don't have a lot of time, or you simply wish to travel with a bit more comfort, the journey by plane will save you some precious time as it takes no more than 25 minutes.
Once there, you'll be able to stretch your legs in the Annapurnas. The advantage is that, from here, there is really a walk to suit every level. From a simple walk around the town's beautiful lake to a route around peaks which are over 7000 metres high, you'll easily find what you're looking for. From a few hours to several days, the multiple travel agencies will be able to adapt to your needs.
Waiting to leave for your trek or to relax on your way back, Pokhara has a calm lake where you can admire the sunrise or the sunset alongside the water. When the mountains are reflected in the crystal clear waters, the moment is magical.
You can also visit the few museums in the town such as the International Mountain Museum, the Annapurna Regional Museum, the Tamu Kohibo Museum or the Pokhara Museum. Don't hesitate either to buy some souvenirs from the Tashiling Tibetan refugee camp.
Accomplished sportsmen and women and fans of adrenaline can also go to play some golf or do a mountain biking trip, or to fly over the region in a microlight or paraglider. When doing this activity, it is even possible to fly with falcons. The experience is unique, and of course magical and unforgettable.
