After the violent earthquakes which struck Nepal, it is not advised to travel in this country in the heart of the Himalayas. On their behalf, the Nepalese people are doing everything to relaunch tourism. The walks on the different mountains, with the famous Mount Everest in the background, are the things which appeal most. But for less experienced trekkers, there are other routes available which are more accessible.
A spiritual getaway, far from the hustle and bustle of Thamel.
Situated just 5 kilometres from the city, Boudhanath is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines in Nepal.
Nepal is a paradise for those who love wide open spaces and trekking. The one to the Gokyo Lakes is, for me, one of the most beautiful you can find in this country, much wilder than the over crowded trek to the Everest base camp. The view from Gokyo Ri is unforgettable: an emerald lake surrounded by the world's highest peaks, in a 360° panorama.
It's a fantastic day-long walk, one hour's drive away from Kathmandu, where you'll be able to see the Himalayan mountains, observe local life, and plunge yourself into Buddhist culture.
