The capital, Zagreb, for example, is a subtle balance between historical wealth and modern town living…

I wanted to visit Paklenica National Park because I'd read there were bears and lynx there. Of course it goes without saying that in order to actually see them you need to be both very patient and very lucky, which I wasn't unfortunately. But never mind. I enjoyed myself walking around the park via its stony paths anyway. Paklenica National Park has a very varied landscape consisting of both forests and the kind of sparse, shrubby terrain that is typical of the Mediterranean region and which generally offers superb, unobstructed views.  I recommend going walking by the side of the gorges so you can enjoy the impressive views there too. Allow a minimum of two and a half hours for this. The park is famous for its rock climbing, an activity that is not my particular cup of tea. However, seeing and admiring strangely-shaped rock formations such as those as Bojinac definitely is to my liking! If you want to spend longer here, there are also huts you can stay in at the site.
