With just one week in Australia, it’s important to know what you would like to visit, to make sure that you’ll be able to plan a 7 or 8 day itinerary that fits in everything that you want to see. Never fear though, since there are so many incredible things to see and do, you won’t have trouble planning the trip of a lifetime.
What to see in one week
With just one week in Australia, why not start with the classics? Begin your travels in Sydney, where you’ll be able to get a sense of the cool city life here as you explore chic bars, nice shops and tasty restaurants. Make sure to try the seafood while you’re here to sample all the specialties. Take a boat tour just off the coast to see a view of the city that not every visitor gets the chance to see. You can even see the famous Opera House as it’s lit up for the evening. The next stop on your one week itinerary should be more rural, to give you a sense of the huge expanse of country that makes up the majority of this destination. Head to Uluru to see the bizarre scenery that has captured so many imaginations and to see some of the country’s famous wildlife on an Australia Safari adventure.
Australia is the adrenaline lover’s dream and you’ll be able to try everything, from surfing on Bondi Beach, to skydiving over the Great Barrier Reef (or snorkelling through it if skydiving isn’t your idea of fun). Why not take a road trip along the Great Ocean Road, for a perfect week long itinerary with amazing places to stop around every corner? Spend the evening parked up as you watch the sunset over the sea and enjoy some delicious food. Aside from the coast, you can also explore some of Australia’s best National Parks, such as the Kakadu National Park or The 12 Apostles; a marine national park with bizarre rock formations. You can also explore some of Australia’s islands, for the perfect place to relax. Visit Fraser Island, where you can rent a boat and live the high life as you relax on board and explore the beaches and the open water.
Since the seasons here are inverted, the hottest time to visit is anytime from November to February, where temperatures can be scorching. This is also a busy time, with many visitors wanting to experience the novelty of a hot Christmas. If you are travelling with younger children, perhaps consider visiting outside of this hot period when the intense sun can be too much for some. Travelling outside of peak times also means that you can save on prices as well as enjoy fewer crowds in some of the more popular tourist destinations. Visiting in the shoulder seasons during August, September, March and April means that you’ll still be able to benefit from good weather. Whenever you decide is the best time to visit, you’ll never want to leave this stunning country.
