In order to explore this incredible region during your trip to Argentina, the best thing is to leave from Salta or San Salvador de Jujuy. You can also travel through the amazing Quebrada de Humahuaca if you arrive from Bolivia in the north or Chile in the west. For the whole length of Ruta 9, between the towns of San Salvador de Jujuy and Abra Pampa you will feel like you are travelling through a masterpiece. Ideally, if you have a little time to spare, you should spend at least 2 days visiting it. On the road you can stay at Purmamarca, Tilcara, Humahuaca or Abra Pampa. If you can't spend that long there, you can see all the major sites in one day but you will have to rush. A lane in Purmamarca
Incredible colours Quebrada de Humahuaca is breathtakingly beautiful. It is so marvellous and so incredible that it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is famous for its improbably colourful mountains. Green, blue, beige, purple, pink, red and ochre - it's truly incredible and will leave you speechless. How is it possible? One mountain that's completely green, another that's blue, yet another that's purple - it's mad. How can nature have created such things? It's even more bizarre when you have all these colours together in one mountain like the "Hill of Seven Colours" at Purmamarca. There is a 3 km walk around this hill. If you do the walk at dawn you can see the mountain changing colour as the sun rises. It's really magical.
